Hey guys... so as the topic clearly suggests, I'm lookin' for a recommendation on a pair of closed set headphones for the office. The only strict requirement is that they should be under $100 (just don't feel like using really expensive headphone at work) and closed. Isolation is important, not for me, but for the co-workers around me. Otherwise it's pretty much free for all suggestions.

I did some searching around though.. so here's a couple of options I'm considering:

Audio-Technica ATH-A55
Audio-Technica ATH-A500
Sony MDR-D66SL Eggo
Sony MDR-D22SL Eggo
Sony MDR-V6
Sennheiser HD280

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think any of these headphones approach the ATH-A900 or the HD590 that I currently own... It's okay though.. but I would like to get as close as possible to the sound signature or at least comparative quality to the A900.

MDR-V6 and HD280 are pretty standard issue, so I might settle back on one or the other if I can't get any real good suggestions and comparisons...

I guess the thing that really intrigues me are the Eggos... What's the difference between the 2 Eggos, seeing that there's a pretty big price difference between them.

Has anyone used one of the cheaper, closed Audio-Technica? How do they compare to the A900?

Anyway.. so.. any and all suggestions appreciated

i've logged many hours at the office with my d66 eggos. they're just open enough to hear the phone or the boss, but block out hall noises, etc. the d66 are nice all-arounders, comfortable once you bend them (i had to), and for me, can be worn for hours. also, they can sound good without an amp. they feature the same kind of tilted drivers as the at cans. i have not heard the d22, but i understand they are not in the same league as the d66.

Eggos certainly look attractive.. I think right now I'm mainly trying to decide between the Eggos and the Audio Technica's... I've pretty much ruled out the V6's and the HD280's.. they're probably just too far off from my home set-up for me to feel satisfied..

Anybody else?.. Contrast the Eggos and the rest of the Audio Technica?...

I own a set of d66 eggos, and run them unamped. Overall they are a fun little set of cans, and there are only two things I dislike about them. The first being the fact that their high end can become a bit grating as the volume knob is turned up. The other is they lack almost any low end punch. These two things may change if you run them with an amp, but I couldn't really comment on that because the way that I use them I have never had a need to do so. If these things are important to you, you may want to consider them before your purchase.

I think it is only fair that I mention that I do enjoy them for some uses. Their semi-open state is perfect for me. In general I use closed phones when I want to be considerate of others, but I dislike the fact that they always block out sounds. The eggos are just perfect in for this because the sound that they let in seems to be just enough for me to know what is going on around me but not enough to distract me from my listening. The sound that they let out is very minimal.

Hmm.. definitely looks like I'm leaning towards getting the ATH-A500....

I guess the only reason to get the Eggo is if I really want to try something slightly different...
