I bought one of these units to be used as a secondary computer listening setup because of its ability to turn DTS and DD 5.1 soundtracks into a surround mix for headphones. I was wondering about playing music through this unit though.

I was thinking, I could leave my Chaintech AV-710 in the mix, run the bitperfect 44.1khz for cd's or AC3/DTS to the yamaha for decoding or would it be better to just plug the yamaha in via USB which it supports.

My only question is this, im trying to avoid windows kmixer when using Foobar2000 to play music so i know that i can accomplish that by using the AV-710 to ouput bitperfect stock 16bit/44.1khz to the yamaha using the digital output, but i dont know if the yamaha's software is compatible to accept 44.1khz in windows when connected via usb in its own right...

does that make any sense?
