Just wondering if anyone has tried the Yamaha AP-U70? I am in the market for a new soundcard... and i came across this as a alternative. Being in australia, most of the recommended soundcard run pretty expensive (m-audio audiophile retails for about US$200-250 i think), while this is pretty cheap here (can get it for about US$150). Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with it? It plugs into the USB port, saving me having to get a soundcard.

Anyone?

I've never been a fan of USB devices for this purpose. The problem with USB is that the bandwidth is pretty limitted. So if you try to pass sound based data (at 24bit, 44.1 KHz), the bus might get congested, and possibly even cause studdering in the playback (I have heard reports of this with the Cavit system). Using USB can also hurt system preformance.

If you do a search for @PET or RUP-100, you'll find a bunch of comments by me on that unit (which is in the same family as the unit you're looking at). I had one of them for about a year.
