Right now I have an X-fi XtremeMusic running under XP - which feeds into an LD1+ amp and then Grado 325i/225. I am using the line out, and want to move asap to (optical?) s/pdif. I know the XtremeMusic has a half baked adapter for digital i/o, but I want some comparison because I plan no purchase a nice DAC soon.

Should I get a Chaintech AV-710 instead? Is it better for feeding straight into an amp or with an external DAC than the XtremeMusic? Should I stick with the special module instead? I'm trying to clear my general confusion

I think I would save a little more and get a dedicated DAC in the future. FWIW I use my X-FI to feed my DacMagic. No problems at all.
