I have a pair of these tubes: XN12

To make them work I assume I must apply 170 volts to pin 11. Not shure wether that is ac or dc. and connect the corresponding pin to ground to make a certain number light up?

Am I correct? Am I on the road to destruction?
Thanks for your help.

I have never used nixie tubes, so take this with a grain of salt, but every tube I have ever used takes a DC power supply. Given that pin 11 is labeled "anode" (i.e., takes a positive voltage) I would assume those ones take DC also.

I don't know if the number pins should be connected to ground or what or if any biasing is necessary.

It's DC. All you do is supply 170v to the Anode and ground the number you wish to display and just float the others. I work with Nixie tubes a lot because I like the way they look.

Couldn't hurt to run the ground through a 1k resistor. Some Nixies are more sensitive to that than others but none of them will die within a few thousand hours without it.
