The SM 3 is an excellent amp. I like the 5534 biased to class A followed by a couple of BUF634's. I prefer that amp to the later ones. I converted one to an amp only so it required a preamp and even though I already have a SM3 I think I will convert it back. I also have with 5002 buffers, that sounds excellent. I always prefered the HA5002 buffer by just a little to the 634.
I also never really used any of the switches on any of the Xin amps but they do come in handy.

Thanks Jam, as always I may have to pick your brain a bit more on this!
One of the popular opamps for the SM3 was the OPA2227, it was quite warm and tubelike. I also very much liked the HA5002 as a buffer and had it in all my SM amps. It has a non-standard pin basing, so is not real easy to adapt to a DIP socket. The 5534 is one of 3 opamps that can be output bypassed.
