Xiaomi Pistons 3.0 Impressions Thread

re: the QR code. Aside from a QR scanner app, do I need an actual Xiaomi account or something? Or is it just a matter of scanning and seeing whether they're authentic or not? I want to pick up the P3s locally, but I'm concerned about the usual fakes. I'm aware that they're a recent release, but you never know.

Very good indeed...
I got my pair from a xiaomi giveaway, and i am in love with these guys.
I own a few IEM's, and these ones, for the price, are probably the best choice on the market.
Very clear and crispy, very good bass and mids. I realy love em

P3's have a much larger soundstage, stronger subbass, and a more airy treble.

My observations exactly, guys. It's good to know that I'm not alone on this. When I used EarPods it gave me a throbbing headache after a short while. I've used the P3s for over an hour everyday so far since I got them last month, no headaches yet. I love the P3s too!

But a friend of mine insists his EarPods sound "loads better" and patronizes me for preferring the P3's over the EarPods even though I got 'em for half the price of the Pods lol.

Bought two, for my gf and myself. Mine got about 70 hours of burn in (about 40 hours pink and white noise, arithmetic and log frequency sweeps, and 30 just my music library on shuffle) while I deliberately left hers unused for that period. Bottom line, any burn-in denier will have to explain to me how is it I identified both pairs 40 times out of 40 in a blind test (on a very familiar track, but still)! It can hardly be ascribed to manufacturing differences since I didn't notice any before the burn in (admittedly I didn't perform a preburn blind test, but I listened very intently for the same differences I now use to tell them apart and heard none; I find it unlikely that my listening skills improved that much in this short period of time).
After the burn in the bass became more controlled and subdued, with much less of it bleeding to mids, and lost the unpleasant boominess. It's still a bit more in quantity than I'd prefer, but I prefer quite flat headphones, and in this price range I don't know of a better choice.
Burn in also improved stereo width by a lot; probably the most striking difference. Soundstage got bigger and more immersive, and instrument positioning got much better.
I got these as a replacement for my Monoprice 8320. I believe there are others there thinking about it because there aren't that many (or any :) cheap flat(ish) earphones out there so a word of caution: these aren't a straight up Monoprice upgrade. Both take a different approach to approaching flat; Pistons have somewhat recessed mids and 8320 the other way around, so differences compound; compared to the Monoprice, Pistons vocal focus and detail will remain somewhat wanting even after burn in, and stage won't be as wide and airy. On the other side Pistons have depth as well as width, and really better layered stage and instrument separation. Less of a specialist, more of an all rounder, at least for me. I do consider the Piston3 to be a better earphone, all things considering, but but if you want a direct 8320 upgrade you'll probably have to go for re-400  Anyway, I hope I helped someone decide.

Purchased the Piston 3s and have been listening for a day. I'm not a totally experienced IEM user and have never spent more than $100 USD on any of my IEM purchases. I have had the RE0s also the aJay 2s, a number of $25 IEMs but mostly full size headphones.

I was pleasantly surprised and will be getting a back-up pair tomorrow. The recommended burn in is 50 hours so I'm not even there yet. Supposedly the bass smooths out and gets a little more controlled? Obviously it's going to be hard to ask for smoothness and total refinement from a $25 IEM, still if they infact lush-out just a little I'm going to end up a pretty happy camper here!

The market may be filled with $25 IEMs, so I guess it's just finding ones you like. So far these sound just nice. They don't really do anything spectacular but they also do not do all that much wrong, except in the treble detail dept. The overall signature is what I like though. They have a detailed bass but not as much as some overly bass centric IEMs or modded headphones. The sound somehow reminds me of mid-level home theater equipment, with less bass. Just detailed and relatively fast. Nice soundstage and decent treble. I'm not passed my burn-in period and I'm glad to hear that the soundstage may get a little more wide. Surprised to hear folks talk about a recessed mid. I realize that if your offering the public a slight V shape signature away from close to flat, that in reaction, the mids become tuned back. In theory that makes complete sense to me. I actually have a number of headphones that I consider slightly V tuned. Still if you do a side by side test they seem to have a more detailed and forward mid centric signature than say the ATH-M50s. For what ever reason I'm in notice of a lot of mid energy and mid information being communicated? If it really does get better after burn in I may say I'm in love with this cheap girl?

The most amazing thing was they scaled. They actually sound better with better sound files and sound better out of better DACs, amps or DAPs. I don't think I have ever had a pair of IEMs for $25 that did that. So instead of just playing music, they are revealing some information regarding source and bit rate/kHz.

The build quality is actually nice. They seem to have a slightly better fit and finish than most $25 IEMs. Just a good feel, still time will tell, as it always does. I'm actually pretty rough on IEMs forgetting they are in my pocket and going to gym or putting stuff ontop of them. I consider myself a hard user of portable headphones and have damaged my share. I think the controls are in a strange place. Some people say you can learn them with time, still I will maybe not use them much.

What fascinates me the most is how they had a very definite character out of each device. They sounded one way out of an iPod Touch, another way out of a Samsung Tab, different and up-scale out of a JDS Labs c421. Still different again from an Schiit Asgard One. The changing sound quality makes a difference on what device your going to choose, but the message I get is these little $25 IEMs fit well, sit in the ears well, and may be more detailed than most I have tried?

It's been awhile but I remember the Monsters being more smooth and detailed. Just get the Pistons as it is not a big risk. They have a generic response.
