Xenos OHA-REP with LM4562/LMH6654

I've found better, probably. I just ordered a few THS4031's - they're somehow a higher performance brother to the already familiar to me THS4051. Could form a happy pairing with the LM4562 that I'd really like to use in this amp.

I tweaked my 650's for less resonances and fuller bass with some foam. Now I'm starting to like AD8620 better.

The treble is just a tiny bit harsh now.

Damn, I can listen to mp3's anymore. The Xenos and Senn's sound too good listening to CD's. I have to encode it all in OGG instead, not enogh hard-disk space for FLAC.

AD8620 + LMH6654 is quite balanced in about every way IMO. Perhaps I should've stopped there...perhaps.

I just received the LM4562 samples & I'm itching to give 'em a spin

Perhaps I shouldn't ditch the LMH6654 so easily. One of its great features is the high output current - and that it sounds transparent indeed.


Only... I would not use the LM4562 with it. Too much 'repetition'

When a couple more of these (& the amp) arrive, here's what I'm going to do:


AD8620 + AD9631

or

LM4562 + AD9631


depending on my mood.

All things considered I may still go with 2 AD8397 for buffers... Especially as I've made sure that it could be simpler to do than in my first attempt, since pins 5 and 6 can just be soldered to the pads on the pcb instead of being lifted up & tied to ground like I did before.

Thus, the only (but essential!) tweaking to be done is lifting pin 7, & jumpering pin 1 to the output series resistors.

So it's AD9631 vs. AD8397. The one is lightning fast, the other is rail-to-rail & higher current.

Hmmm, I sense a xenos x5 coming to you in the nearish-sorta future which will need wise opamp choices....

I just was somehow discouraged from trying the LM4562 by NelsonVandal's post in a thread nearby, so...


AD8058 + AD9631,

or

AD823 + AD8397 ?

The AD823 + AD8397 sound better than you would ever think in the Xenos, very clear, dynamic, extended, and rich too -- the AD823 apparently contributes to 'enrich' the AD8397 without seeming to take away any clarity, quite the opposite (I guess it's that the AD8397 distorts less at the lower gains? Compare the distortion graph in the AD45048 datasheet). I always enjoy experimenting with something new though, so I'm nonetheless inclined to agree with you

The AD8058 produces a little bit of DC offset anyway (formerly, 13 mV), but using the AD9631 in place of the LMH6654 should help to keep it low enough (all the more so for the 300 ohms of the HD650), perhaps below 10 mV.
