I received the upgrade card from
Shenzhenaudio.com nearly 2 weeks from receiving the WM8741 DAC card. The installation and firmware update process was relatively smooth, taking about 15 min. After installing the upgrade card, a driver is needed for the serial port. I tried to run the driver downloaded from their website, but there seems to be a decompression error and the installation failed. Actually, Windows can find and install the driver correctly. So, I didn't use the included driver. Another potential issue is that I put the sticker back on after the firmware upgrade and installed the WM8741 DAC card for a test. I realized that if the firmware upgrade had failed, I would have to remove the sticker again to make another attempt. Maybe that's why there are two stickers included. I guess this process will need to be repeated for the R2R DAC card when it's released.
I'm testing WM8741 DAC card. I realized that it doesn't support any DSD format, and PCM support is up to 192 KHz. The problem is that the source thinks XD05 Pro can play DSD, and XD05 Pro can even display the correct format and sample rate. However, anything DSD or above 192K will have no audio output. The first file I played after installing the WM8741 was a DSD file. I thought it malfunctioned and reinstalled it. Then, I played a CD and it worked.
