XDuoo XD-05 Portable Dac/Amp Introduction - Impressions

Darn, I've only had my xd05 for 6 months. Hope nothing goes wrong with it.
With the Burson v5i it sure sounds good.
Yeah, I was reluctant before trying, and used a couple of others such as LME49720 etc, but made the dive into V5i anyway due to the peer pressures from this thread; and yes, its meant to be in there most of the times.

Hey, so I'm contemplating buying a used Xd-05 with a busted screen. They're only asking 40 usd for it. I have no experience using a xd-05. Is it absolutely essential for doing stuff with it ? Would that be worth it ?
The biggest problem for me would be controlling the battery charge. And keep in mind it's not a very good option to use a desktop card, because it can't draw power directly from USB, it will have to go through the battery and cause recharge cycles.
If you're going to use it as a portable dac/amp and don't mind not seeing the battery charge, then $40 is absolutely a great price for this device sound-wise.

So without the screen it's still basically usable? I'm not too fussy with the setting and this just might work for me. Thanks a lot for answering.

it's going to be somewhat usable, but you'll have to play around with the buttons to see what they do and then leave them, but as @PoorBastard said, not having a battery indicator is going to be an issue. But if you accept all that and don't mind it turning off with no warning (or knowing when it's fully charged), then it's decent. But also keep in mind that the stock opamp is mediocre if that's what it has - so you add a new one of those into the calculation, it's not quite as good a deal.

I personally don't think that the stock opamp is mediocre, I tested this dac with a stock amp against multiple other competitors. For $40 it's a no-brainer sound-wise.

Does anyone know where can I get XD05-plus battery part? I am using the new ba300s which is the same with XD05 battery.

I just had a good friend possibly fry 2 sparkos dual ss2590 in the xduoo 05+ and I have NO clue What is going on. Neither work and we have tried to verify everything. Not good. Just to mention what is going on. Im utterly boggled.. nothing should be out of spec.

[edit] OKAY, headway. The 05+ in question is 2+ years old and it appears the battery is not holding its voltage/charge enough to kick the amps on. THANK GOD!

That's money down the drain. Discreet opamps are the ultimate snake oil.

The only way to fry the opamp it to install it 180 degrees out of index in the socket. I fried a Sparkos SS2590 dual in an Xduoo XD-05 that way. Expensive lesson to remind me to take my time and not work on stuff when I’m tired. And yes the SS2590 is a very noticeable upgrade in the Xduoo XD-05 if higher end IEMs or headphones are used. It’s my ultimate desktop travel rig. When I RV it comes with. I use Fostex Th900-Mk2 Sapphire headphones and Unique Melody Mest Mk2 IEMs with it running USB IN on Tidal or Amarra Play on my iPhone. They sound so good with that setup. I can’t say how well it works on the plus version of the XD-05 with balanced out, since I’ve only used the Sparkos opamps with the XD-05 OG unit.

Just adding this for opamp options. I’ve tried probably 10 different opamps in the Xduoo xd-05. Besides the Sparkos Labs SS2590 the only other opamp that wowed me was the Linear Technology LT1364 Opamp, which is pretty inexpensive, like $10. But Beware of fakes though. It was better than the Burson V5i-D to me.
