xDSD Gryphon: birth of a ‘head-fi’ legend

Just a really positive note: I recently posted Ifi about a box with the Gryphon interconnects that a person working in my house threw out. Well, like two days later Ifi sent them to me. Peace of mind! Considering that this wasn't really covered by warranty, this is an unusually good company...

pheeewww~~

Finally finished going thru all 172pgs.
Received this bad boy today and ...... loving it. Build quality is top notch and i like the size and feel in my hand. And happy to report there's zero wobble or movement with regard to physical buttons. Both driver and firmware updates went without a hitch and no volume issues on Android or windows 11 so far.

I'm traveling to Irvine next week for 10 days to visit family and of course attend CANJAM while at it, :dt880smile: and I used traveling as an excuse to get this portable setup. I initially ordered the Topping G5, but there's some type of delay with shipping and so I purchased this as a backup. And boy am I glad I did. I will definitely keep this. Still playing with the filters, but STD appears to be the cleanest one. GTO, not so sure at the moment. Still experimenting though along with xbass/space which is new for me.

Oh and the miter case is well made too with snug fit.

I have the exact same set up. Good taste. Do you use it with a balanced cable?

This is such a pleasant device to operate. First time I actually don't miss a DAP where I have to contend with tiny screen and clunky UI. And it is so versatile with myriad of inputs and outputs, plus the xbass/xspace/iematch. But the best part for me is the look and feel in the hand, which is superb. A miter case is a must IMO. It makes the device much more premium. My general use case is wired to my laptop when traveling or BT in LDAC 96khz connected to my phone.

In terms of sound, I love the Xbass, which is subtle and tastefully done. On the other hand, I do feel like the GTO filter sounds overly smoothened. And the overall sound has this slight 'reverb' like effect that sometimes makes songs sound a bit hollow. If you generally like warmer tones, I think you'll be pleased. But if you're looking for the cleanest sounding portable DAC/AMP, this may not be it.

@iFi audio Any plans on a new firmware release for the Gryphon ?
Would like to have the volume in dB again, either if it would be like this by deafult or a feature that could be turned on (for example when MIN filter is activated).
Same with screen brightness when set to OFF: one should be able to set it both HIGH and LOW, as it was on v1.22.

I like the Gryphon a lot apart from these 2 aspects regarding the firmware (which are a big deal for me). These would make the device complete for me.

You know, the Gryphon is not their only product and I think their development team is not that big. At least they fixed the most serious issues so the Gryphon can work as stable as it should.
Indeed the Gryphon is not their only product, but at the same time:
1. It is one of the higher end products for its category, so I think it is reasonable to expect more attention from the manufacturer to users' requests;
2. Many people have asked for these 2 features on this thread;
3. Those 2 features are easy to implement, as they existed before in v1.22 and earlier;

I do give them credit for all the effort put into solving the more serious issues, however I think our requests are reasonable.
Can't say anything about how big or small their development team is (I'm not aware of the inner workings of the company),
however even if the development team is a smaller one, I think these small updates can and should be done.
