I've been looking at getting the Audio-gd Compass, however, I'm not sure how I'll connect it to my Xbox 360. Can it connect via optical, or are there some issues with this (I hear the 360 defaults to 5.1 for optical?)?

I'm sorry if this has been covered before, I've tried searching.

Also, is this the wrong section? I wasn't sure.

My PS3 has the option to configure the optical output to 2 channel PCM and works with all of my 2 channel dacs. Maybe 360 does too. Check its audio options.

the 360 has a "digital stereo" option which is 2ch PCM

the default setting is dolby digital (everything but DVD and netflix is output as 640kbps AC3... DVDs just bitstreams whatever track is being played form the disc (DD, DTS, whatever) and netflix outputs 2ch PCM)

The new jasper chip set run much quiter and if you burn the cd,dvd, or game to your harddrive there is very little noise. Just look for a 360 manufactured after november.
