Hey all,

i just got my Zhaolu 2.5A with the headamp upgrade, and i'm currently listening to it via a coaxial connection to my X-Fi. the first thing i noticed was how loud it was. i'm not talking just kinda loud; a nudge above silent reaches my upper limit in terms of volume. i had to push my foobar "preamp" down to -8.5 dB so i could adjust the volume at more reasonable increments.

anyone else experience this?

My stock Zhaolu 2.5C is very loud too, with high efficiency phones like Shure E500, with which I can barely turn the knob much higher above Zero either. Seems this is normal behavior. The default gain of Zhaolu 2.5 is quite high I guess.

wow, i wouldn't even try iems on this amp. what's weird is that my HD580s are rated at 300 Ohms, but it's still super sensitive.

i wonder if there's a way to lower the gain.

That's exactly why I'm thinking of bypassing the internal amp all together by getting an OMZ and a nice standalone amp, such as Headamp GS-1.
