x-fi prelude as a DAC for a headroom micro amp?

would this be viable until I can afford a standalone DAC? I don't even know if it's possible, unless I can just use a miniplug-miniplug from the line out into the amp.

This is what I use for my DT880's and it works perfectly. I'm not sure how much of an improvement you'll get from a standalone DAC, some people prefer the prelude/hotrodded xfi elite pro over the benchmark DAC1.

I'm unable to notice a difference in quality between asio\kernel streaming vs using vista's audio stack with an Auzentech Prelude and my FLAC library. I find having volume control and a buffer far more useful.

Easy to switch though if your ears are better than mine.
