I've just seen also this cable that SHOULD be compatible with HD540
https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B07QXY7ZF9/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=AVZ39LGZSW4FB&psc=1
what do you think??
Yea looks compatible ! However as stated before, I only know HD250 but they look they have the same connectors. I do know any HD600/650 termination is applicable with HD250 and HD540. However for HD540 Reference 2, very unsure. I am only familiar with Linear 1 and Reference 1.

Also, I never knew Amazon have french language. Am delusional...

Actually the connectors of the cable for HD 600 are not good with HD 540, what was the problem in my case . Is it true that I may use the cable of the hd 25 ? Probably you may suggest me the suitable cable disponible on any other store (thomann?) .

Hi am not sure all I know its compatible with HD540 Reference 1, and should be compatible since HD540 Reference 1 similar to Reference 2, I could be wrong. I have no idea for thoman. Try HD 650 cable instead ? Because my Linear 1 works 100% without issue either single ended or balance cable.

hello there,
I've just purchaised hd540 and find myself very happy with this headset!
The only thing that I recieved it with the cable initially adapted for hd600 so as I have already seen in this topic, there is some problems with the matching of the connectors. May you suggest me a good option for the cable replacement? I just checked french amazon and found many chinese cables that should be adapted for hd25 and hd540 as well. Does it mean that I may use the official cable for hd25 which should fit hd540 as well (I believe it has the same type of connectors).
https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B009GF6V1W/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3EAF62MLCUZOO&psc=1
Many thanks in advance!
Cheers
For HD 540 (any) you can use cables for HD600 and HD650, but you have to intervene with a scalpel on the connectors.
Here on the thread you have a detailed description of the procedure, you just need to find it.......see pages 207 and 208
I bought a balanced Cardas Clear Light for HD 600 ,for my HD 540RG and Hd 540R II

Hello everyone,
I got another pair of HD540 Ref1. 600 ohm I suppose, but I need to check it. Where can I buy these two types of white felt orings? Are they available in Europe?
Also - I knew that original pads were the best, but maybe there is something which I can seek for?

I personally have no idea myself so I let others answer. However, what happened to your white foam rings ? Mine was dirty because of all the black flakes from the stock pads itself. lol

BOTH cables you linked here (originally for the HD25 phones) are NOT good for the HD540, not because of the connectors (which DO fit the HD540), but because they are NOT symmetrical Y cables (both Left and Right sides equal) but asymmetrical - one side is longer then the other. If you carefully look ay the photos you'll see that. That's because most HD25 phones, being DJ oriented, are designed this way. As far as I know there is only one HD25 model (HD25SP) that uses a symmetrical 'Y' cable and this is a "heavy duty" STEEL cable (not copper) that Sennheiser still keeps into production. The original HD540, 600 Ohm Ref.1 (and the HD250 Linear1 had steel cables). I belong to a MINORITY here that actually PREFERS the sound of the steel cable to the copper one because it has a bit more "sparkle" others think the copper sounds more refined and detailed... If you read at the start of the thread the situation was just the opposite...:)) so be warned about that.

THIS is the STEEL cable I'm talking about, 3 meters long - Sennheiser HD 25-SP Replacement Cable: (fits perfectly all the 540-250-580-600-650 and other lines with this connector. I know from experience - I have a few of them)
https://www.audiosanctuary.co.uk/sennheiser-hd25sp-heavy-duty-cable-black-300cm.html

THIS is today's Sennheiser COPPER cable with the old shaped connector: 1.5 meters long - Official Sennheiser Spare Part No. 508822:
https://www.audiosanctuary.co.uk/sennheiser-hd-replacement-cable-black-3.5mm-jack-adaptor.html

THIS is really the best deal in town, official HD650 replacement cable, 3 meters in length, but you will have to "shave" the plastic a bit with a scalpel to get it in...
https://www.audiosanctuary.co.uk/sennheiser-hd650-hd660-replacement-lead-3m.html

THIS is also an official Sennheiser replacement headphone cable (cat.no.508688), 3 meters in length, to fits most of Senheisser models with this connector, you will have o "shave" the plastic a bit to get it in.
https://www.audiosanctuary.co.uk/se...d580-cable-3.5mm-jack-plug-3m-ofc-508688.html

THIS cable is 1.4m in length, made by Apogee. and comes with 2 Pin Connector to 3.5mm Jack termination. Also have to "shave" the same as above.
https://www.audiosanctuary.co.uk/sennheiser-hd650-hd600-hd650-apogee-replacement-lead-1.4m.html

I'm sure you can find all these cables at Thomanns and other suppliers

Sound wise, there are small differences IMO, but I don't want to enter the subject - to each one his ears...

I cannot hear the difference in cable but nevermind that. the HD25 phones cables (link) he provided, is it suitable for HD250 as well ? Just curious. So both HD 540 Reference 1 and 2 are not compatible ?

Is this specific to the Ref II? Because I'm absolutely certain shaving HD650 connectors isn't necessary for the Ref I or Gold.

Thank you very much for these details!
I actually have seen the copper cable which should be good for hd25sp as well as for he 540
https://www.thomann.de/fr/sennheiser_hd_25_light_cable_15_m.htm

It’s a bit more expensive than steel cable . I suppose it should be more durable as well , shouldn’t it?

I'm absolutely sure. All 540s and 250s (both series1 and 2) have the same ear cups connector, and the "hole" is too small for the 650 cable's plug.
The pins are the same but the HD650 cable's ear cup's plug is too large, so you have to "shave" it in order to enter all the 250/540 series' ear cups' "hole".
I have them all, and the cable, so I'm absolutely sure...
Sorry, I'm not an English native speaker-what would be a better, more accurate term than "hole"...?
