Hey 👋
I’ve just gotten a HD 560 refII ( made in Ireland) in excellent conditions. Quickly looking on the original pads (opening it from one side ) it looks very similar to my HD 540 , with plastic rings inside . However I noticed that the velour pads (green colour) are attached to the rings , so they seem to be an entire construction .

Does it means that for the pad replacement I need to remove old pads from the rings and then attach new pads to the old rings ? What do you think about these pads compared to what I have ( attached some photos)

Yes, and the pad should work fine. I actually rolled a lot of pads with that model when restoring mine and found I generally prefered various velour pads with that headphone. If I had to recommend one randomly, it'd be hifiman velours, they round out and soften with age and work very well well for that headphone. They're $5 from American distributors, I doubt they would be expensive in EU.

Okay I gotcha thank you 👍 so basically I need to detach old pads from the rings, right ? I found actually that they are really like the entire construction so … 🙄
About new pads I have not found anything with the exemption of the leather pads on local Amazon, so would be happy for any other suggestions that could be found there 👍

BTW I find the version that I received ( made in Ireland ) in a really great shape , from which period they could be??

Yes, also, save the pads if you can, if you're handy with a needle and thread, you can always refoam them, but that said, others in this thread could give you better pointers on doing that than me. You will need to remove the rings to attach new pads, iirc, any 100mm pad will fit it except stock Beyer pads (the lip isn't long enough to grip the ring). I think someone else saved their Senn pads by making small incisions in the rear plastic of the pad in stead of forcing it out.

Hello, do you have more links to archival photos promoting Senn headphones? HD800?

Unbelievable, 35 years and still in great shape.
and regarding the pads, It's not possible to find something native-like (with the integrated rings ), right ?
Anyway, I would be extremely thankful for any specific examples ?
Do we need 100 or 105 mm ?
I found this one which could do the show

That website is a database featuring many different established brands, I believe you should just need to hit the index button near the bottom of that previous link. It is a goldmine of information.

Sennheiser native, with the rings, not to my knowledge. You'd have to find someone who still has leftover 560 pads from when Sennheiser still made them, and 105mm will fit fine, so long as the lip is long enough to cover the ring.

Looks like they've gone up in price, but I was referring to these: https://store.hifiman.com/index.php/velour-earpads.html

I'm sure either of those will serve you well though, get that girl up and running.

Although I'm still fighting to get the eighties stink out of the gold mesh, I've cleaned my Reference Gold pretty thoroughly inside and out over the years I've owned it, but the topside of the headband I guess I've always kept well dusted and have actually never touched. A finger test says it's a bit dusty and oily to the touch, although visibly clean. For the Reference Gold, I know the headband is a different material from the others, but I haven't looked into what it is exactly. Does anyone know what materials would be safe for cleaning it?

I just bought this thing on Amazon. It softens this pad and fits perfectly. Highly recommend. My headband is clean, but it's very hard and unpleasant to the touch.

On the official site I found this manual for the hd560

https://assets.sennheiser.com/global-downloads/file/3659/HD560ovation.pdf

Could someone share the same for ovation II ?

I know these, I have one on my Linear I.

While a good option, as I really have cleaned every other part of it, I would prefer having a way to clean it. I happen to also enjoy the sight of this headband and how it shows it's age. Sorry to say, it'd be a shame to put this beauty under wraps.

Does anyone know if it's possibly an animal based leather?

Got the idea to look up the manual from the post above and it actually suggests a damp cloth with a gentle agent for the rigid plastic components. Since it'd be practical to assume Sennheiser probably didn't intend users to take the headphone apart for cleaning, I'm going to assume hand soap and water won't hurt it. I'm going to give that a go tomorrow.

Hey 👋 after one week experience with the hd 560 I’ve been able to understand the sound difference with the hd540 😃 while the both sounds quite bright (e g compared to the hd600), the hd560 are definitely much more enriched with the bass.

Btw which models from the modern headphones (akg beyerdynamics Sennheiser etc) could be more close to the hd 540 ??
