hi,
has anyone seen the Panasonic DVD-F87? it's available at crutchfield
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-CNIC5H9...=0&cc=01&avf=N

$129.99 gets you a 5 disc dvd changer, dvd-audio support, hdcd decoding, upsampling(i'm guessing that's multi re-master means) and also plays dvd-ram. here's a rundown of the specs:

change 4 discs while the 5th keeps playing
plays DVD-Video, DVD-R, DVD-RAM, and Video CD
plays DVD-Audio, CD, CD-R & CD-RW, and MP3 & WMA CD-R & CD-RW
plays digital photo CDs (JPEG)
54MHz/10-bit video DAC
selectable interlaced/progressive-scan component video output (progressive scan requires an HD-compatible TV)
de-interlacer with 3-2 pulldown processing
image sizing (4:3 Shrink and Letterbox Zoom & Shift)
Advanced Virtual Surround Sound for enhanced 2-speaker sound
built-in Dolby Digital/DTS/Pro Logic II decoding with 5.1-channel output
coaxial digital output for Dolby Digital/DTS/PCM
1 set of A/V outputs (composite video, S-video, and 480i/480p component video)
HDCD decoding
Multi Re-Master audio processing (selectable)
Audio Only mode (switches off video circuitry)
192kHz/24-bit audio D/A converter
audio signal-to-noise ratio 115 dB
remote control
Energy Star® compliant
16-15/16"W x 2-3/4"H x 17-1/8"D
warranty: 1 year parts, 90 days labor

could be the new bargain for those looking for good redbook performance with dvd-audio support.

From Pansonic's website....

Double Re-Master Processing

This feature increases the data density in CD or DVD signals to reproduce even high-frequency sounds outside the audible range, creating incredible sound quality. It can also be used in conjunction with compressed formats like MP3 and WMA to compensate for signal loss, giving you a full, rich sound

Hmmmm....

This looks to be a great player to partner up with my Sony DVP-NS500P SACD/CD/DVD player.

specs don't usually say much about how it's finally going to sound.

I used to own a CP72S. Sonically, it didn't work for me.

with stated SNR of 115dB there cant be any bad converter inside and the rest can be modded like a charm! also - HDCD compatible - it very likely means there is PMD200 digital oversampling filter used - I say WOW! very good offer, especially the fact it can switch to audio-only mode

I would pick it and mod it if I werent into computer based audio

Does anyone know where I can find a firmware update for this unit? Have had no luck with extensive googling, but then again I don't know the usual sources of firmware updates, if there are any specialized sites out there or whatever.

I would very much like it to play mp3 dvd discs. For some reason it currently can only play mp3 cds.

Sorry for the outrageous bump!
Thanks.
