I was just about to note the same thing. If it's under 99% for over 1000 feedbacks left you gotta wonder. 89% just screams "Avoid Me!"

1. size/number of elements
2. quality
3. price

Pick any two.

There absolutely isn't a good/cheap speaker in the large floorstander category.

And yes, I'd pick a no-name speaker, but only if I heard it first or it had some redeeming design/measurement features.

regards,
halcyon

Spending hundreds of dollars for "as-is", no-name speakers from an ebay seller with 89% feedback is one of the worst gambles I can think of. You may as well go out and buy $200 worth of lotto tickets.

Ebay buyers usually don't give out negative feedback for trivial issues, below 98% is "be careful" territory, below 95% is "might be risky", below 90% is "STAY AWAY"

Do not buy speakers unless:

1) you have heard them (or have been given a very detailed description of their sonic qualities from a trusted source)

2) you have been able to examine the build quality (or the person above gave the speakers a solid cabinet rapping)

the only time i would consider the purchase of no-name speakers is if they are from already established plans (making them not quite no names) or if designed by a person with a proven track record in speaker design

people have a way of moving from company to company when they are in demand or even say the heck with all of it and form a start up company so they can make decisions without interference

otherwise

NO !

Multiple driver speakers like the one's mentioned here on e-bay are extremely difficult to produce properly. Balancing drivers and crossovers gets more complicated the more drivers involved. Identical drivers usually wind up cancelling out certain frequencies which leave large dips in the final response. I've seen these sort of "white van" multi-driver speakers which don't even contain a single crossover....just the speakers all wired together.
I highly doubt these specific models sound any good.

I was recently looking for a pair of inexpensive speakers to use with my computer system. It's hooked into a low power JVC receiver, a Yamaha subwoofer, and until I wound up using them elsewhere, a pair of shielded Paradigm 2-ways. So I wasn't looking for anything audiophile quality, but at the same time, wanted more than the standard small plastic satellites.

For about $130 U.S., I found a pair of demo "Quest" brand , shielded , made in China 2 ways from FutureShop (a large Canadian chain now owned/operated by Best Buy) I had never heard of "Quest" before. I listened to them and they sounded fine for my purpose, the build quality seemed good, they were distributed in Canada by a firm I know of ( and used to do business with) and the price was very reasonable. Besides, at least buying from a large store, I could return them if I didn't like them. However, I would never have purchased them from E-Bay or the back of a van...sight unseen and unheard....from an unknown seller.

If you look through the feedback you will also see that a number of accounts have given this seller 10 positives in a row. This is certainly to offset the negative feedbacks, and isn't the result of real auctions. Clearly this is the white van scam. I also like how he claims the system is 4 way when the midrange drivers appear to be the same as the midbass but just painted red. If these are rebranded speakers I certainly don't recognize them, and I doubt that any 7 driver speakers are manufactured in quantities where there would be significant amounts of overstock.

Even more frightening is the fact that these guys have 6130 active auctions, as of midnight PDT:

We can interpret this to mean that 6130 poor schmucks are going to get ripped off by these jokers.

Total agreement with others!

If you want something really good and feel good, Go to speaker cabinet building on the internet. Maybe many younger head-fiers don't know, but many great American speaker manufacturers endorsed do-it-yourself concept in the 50's. They sound great if properly built.

All you need is to find great drivers from the audiogon, ebay, or elsewhere to finish off the speakers. There are many cabinet building guides on the internet. I found countless when I was restoring my vintage mcintosh and marantz. You will have one of a kind and you can show off your skills here.
