My laptop sound card is broken (mic input is fine tho) so I'm going to buy a FiiO E17, but I'd also like to get some surround sound when I play games. So I thought about this and came up with a solution I think, by the way the Mixamp is the old old one, the one that doesn't have USB sound input.
Sound: Laptop --> E17 --> Mixamp --> Headphone
Microphone: Laptop --> Mixamp --> Mic

Would this work or I'm just going to get problems? I'm open  to other solutions

I'm guessing you will need an external USB sound card (to get surround sound).

Well the E17 is my sound card

E17 great little DAC/amp, but comes with zero surround sound for anything.
And the Mix-amp. can not create real surround sound with only a 2-channel feed.
Does your laptop come with an optical output?

All I have is a SPDIF out, tried connecting the mixamp but no sound is coming out of it.

I used 3.5mm to toslink --> mixamp

EDIT: ooooooooooooooooo I think it's a coaxial SPDIF out, guess I'll need to order a cable to test it out.
