I received new earbuds from the mail today, and they sound great except I found a visible crease in the middle of the cord, like it was folded on it or something. Yea it's difficult to tell by just describing it, but I'm not sure what defines cord damage to you guys, whether you see complete fraying with wires sticking out or just a nick like I have. Thanks.

even though im not an expert...i have plenty of stock headphones that have that and to me that doesnt seem to be cord damage. hope that helps

Cord damage, to me, is when the internal conductors (insulation intact or not) are visible through the external sleeve, or worse, when signal can't get through the cable. Kinking is not a damage IMO.

Some lapel-clips are too tight and will cause a "dent" but functionality speaking, if it works, can't really call it damaged.
