would the ESS 422H offer any "upgrade" over my T50RP MKII with thick generic pads?

a set of thick pads really made T50RP sound a lot better to me than with stock pads. (source JLH amp, transformer out CS4398 DAC) Would 422H offer any advantages
over my Fostex cans?

Hi @karlsonklam,

Subjectively & personally, the short answer is no though given I have no idea about your sound preferences or what music you listen to makes this tricky to be more specific.

Potentially, subjectively & personally, ESS 422H requires high current &/or voltage to sound good or at least better, though that depends on personal preference as AMT tech can be hit & miss if not tuned to specific taste & realistically, very few pads 'change' sound significantly to be drastic.
Usually, acoustic pressure, air flow & comfort have more to do with sound perception.

The only way to know for certain on what suits you is to demo the 422H & see whether it works for you.

Hope you have a great day !
