So two years back I put my Superfi 4's through the wash and just got around to replacing the jack a week ago. Now, they sound like crap to me. Is this because they went through the wash, because the sodering job and the replacement jack weren't very good, or that they just didn't sound very good?

Any or all of the above. I had some high quality earbuds that i dropped too many times, and their sound quality was seriously damaged. If some residue was deposted on the diaphragm it could mess up the sound.
