I'm a big fan of rock and metal and are very curious about Grado headphones (which I never listened). I'm currently own ATH-M50 and like them a lot. So, the question is: would SR225 be an upgrade from ATH-M50, or should I save more money and go right to the RS1, though, I feel, it wouldn't be a tomorrow buy.

Yes, it would be an upgrade, but not quite as wide as the one up to the RS1i.
The M50 are fine headphones, but the sr225i really do rock and metal well with in-your-face guitar forwardness.
I am keeping my sr225i for portable applications when I get my RS1i.

I realize SR225 are one of the best rock headphones, but is this advantage worth $200, or it would be kind of a sidegrade, I wonder.

How is the 225 for vocals and drums? Is it a bright sounding phone?
