Got an email from the gang at Woo Audio tonight - my Woo Audio WA6-SE (Gen 2) is being shipped tomorrow. Unfortunately, they are back ordered several weeks on the components to build a silver one, so I settled for black. I'm sure they both sound the same while listening with my eyes closed anyway :)

Tube rolling about to commence - already have some on order, but if anyone has any decent upgrade recommendations for the power rectifier tube, I'm all ears (pun intended). I'm still debating about popping close to $450 on a KR Audio 274B from Germany. Anyone have any experience with this tube?

Thanks!

Congrats on getting what I think is the best sounding tube amp in its price range (once you upgrade the power tube). If you haven’t already checked it out, see Dubstep Girl’s massive thread on power tubes. Also, there’s a WA-6 /WA-6SE thread where you are likely to get a quick feedback on that particular power tube.

Your HD8XX is going to sound amazing.

I acquired a used Gen 1 recently (from a member here, actually!) and he sent along the Sophia upgrade for the rectifier tube, along with the stock tube. The Sophia sounds splendid to my ears.

The Sophia is a splendid rectifier! Beautiful to look at as well as listen to. Tonight I'll be testing out the KR Audio 274B-HP that just arrived from Germany. If you want another tube to play with, go get a USAF 596 and adapter off eBay. It's a very "warm and gooey" sounding tube, more carmel, less seltzer.

It's time for everybody's favorite game show - "What's in the Box?"

That's right! It's my KR Audio 274B-HD tube, straight from Germany!

Ah, thanks for the tip!

Enjoy your new tube…
