I have a Samsung 1080P and yes, it is a great improvement over normal DVDs but if the transfer is not that great, nor are HDDVD or Blu-Ray
There are many cases where my god awful HD channels are miles ahead of a HD or blu-ray video, that has been transfered poorly.
Its also about how greedy or spoiled you become. To me, the Departed is one of the best Blu-Ray videos (for quality) I have seen. When I compare it to others, such as Big Fish, Blood Diamond, 300, etc they all look weak. But if you take out a movie you fancy then sure its all great I guess

Even with a bad 720p tv most people can tell. I just came back from home where my dad has a 1080i 42" LCD panel and we were streaming some test 1080i telestreams and they looked awesome. |
