I have an old panasonic model sl200 (where i bought used from a friend). It still works great, no internal hardware problems even when i put the machine in rough usage. The sound output is good too, it has a louder clearer output than the new philips model i also own. It even sports a line out. (i have no amp though)

So im wondering, when you have the antiskip feature turned ON, do you notice any sound quality difference versus when antiskip is turned OFF?

Using the best headphone i have right now, the sr80. I can only hear a slight difference. and if this was done in blind test fashion, i dont think i can easily tell the difference. The panasonic sl200 has a 3 second antiskip (hhehehe, its old).

The newer philips model, it doesnt state how many seconds but it has the JOGGER on it. This, i can tell and hear the decrease in sound fullness.

Note: if you will be trying this, when antiskip is ON, shake the thing while you are listening (so it really activiates the feature).

It depends on whether the antiskip memory data is compressed or not.

If the antiskip data is non-compressed, there is less reason to suspect decreased quality due to the antiskip; the only thing you may be able to point to is the activation of the antishock memory causing less power be available to the headphone amp and adding interference.

If the antiskip data is compressed, it's the same deal as telling apart mp3 from CD: if the compressing is bad you'd be able to tell easily.

Once while I was listening to a track I heard high frequency ringing that I had never heard before... I thought my ears were picking up something new from the recording, until I discovered that the G-protection switch had been set to '2' (compressed) by the people in the Sony factory repairing my unit.

thanks Joe Bloggs. you are 'decent'.

Now im comparing the mp3 program called Foobar vs the MAD plugin (with winamp).

It seems that i like that Foobar output.

By any chance, heard of Onitsuka Chihiro?
