There is no "iPod classic 4th or 5th Gen". The "classic" line began with the 6th generation of iPod, when the design changed.
As for specific differences in sq, it is what it is. Preferring a wolfson over a cirrus just means that's what you like - it doesn't make the wolfson the better sounding/performing chip.
And Rockboxing a classic (6th Gen and up) truly will bring out the sq it's capable of.

Just because you voted for Obama it doesn't make him any better than Romney. :)

hey guys whats up?
i want to get an ipod but i hear different things
some say that ipod classics have the best audio quality
an others say touch 4th.
if u care only about audio quality
witch one is the best?
if it helps i want to use in with a fiio e11 amp and my M50s or akg k370
thanks

I was using a 80 gig classic connected to a Fiio E17 and for what ever reason one day it erased all my music so i started using my old 30 gig photo ipod.
I was dumbstruck I hadn't used this ipod with the Fiio before but when I did it was like I was hearing all my music for the first time, the quality was that pronounced.
my headphones are Grado SR325is and westone um2. So I say look for one of these
