I am using a Powerbook as my source. My DAC is across the room and I would like to be able to control iTunes (mainly play/pause) from my listening station. What remotes are available/recommended for this application? Thanks.

Thanks for your replies.

My cell phone will not work for this application, but the Keyspan device looks like a good way to go.

What you really need is a new Mac... all MacBook and MacBook Pro models come with an Apple Remote, which (naturally) works well with iTunes, plus you get FrontRow which is specialised for browsing your music from across the room

Great idea. I would love to have one of the new Macs.

Can you get an Apple remote that works with the Powerbook and load Front Row?

I'd like to say yes, but I doubt there's an "official" way of doing it. You might find online guides to help you load FrontRow on any Mac of your choice, but then getting it to work with any given remote could be hard. (Apple doesn't support either FrontRow or the Apple Remote on anything except the Macs they're bundled with.)

I don't think I want to go the hack route. Is it true that Leopard will run front row and be remote accesible for the Powerbooks when it is launched?

I considered Squeezebox. It seems like a very nice piece. I want to use the Lavry as my DAC. Do you know if you can stream bit perfect to and from the Squeezebox as I do with Airport Express?

I have the Keyspan remote for controlling iTunes via my PC. It works great including fast forward, rewind abilities. One "caveat" - it requires line of site (assume it's infrared vs. RF) so you have to point the remote directly at the repeater for it to work.
