I have a quick quesiton. Can wireless network cards you put in desktop computers go bad over time????

I have never heared that before and if it does it would of been known by now.
Got me an old lucent solver orinoco card with a pci adaptor to it that is very helpfull in my windows PC even though it is not supported under Linux

I don't believe so. I've had my setup for 2 years now and it's still working fine. Unfortunately I can't do anything about neighbours in my apartment gradually going wireless though (up to 7 detected wireless setups on record) and causing interference from time to time.

The reason I ask is, my laptop computer picks up alot more wireless networks in my area and I don't get dropouts with my laptop using my APX.

Range and dropouts can be determined by your wireless card make and drivers.
In my laptop i have an Atheros CM9 mini-pci card, and it gets more solid connections than the standard Intel wireless card.
