currently using razer kraken and am looking for a bit more fidelity and an open style instead of closed.

comfort is priority #1 which the razers are quite good at just lacking in sound quality. noise canceling is not required, but good mic preferred.

preferably under $250

to be used on an Xbox controller.

If your plugging into a low power controller you won't do any better than the Sennheiser Drop PC38X. The pc37x needs more power to drive. Check ebay, there's good prices all the time from liquidators.
