Hey guys, I used both Windows Media Player and foobar2000 to play my audio files. There is a great sonic difference between the audio signals that come out from each program, WMP producing a compressed-sounding signal compared to that of FB2k.

Is there a built-in compressor in WMP?

Yes. WMP has optional audio enhancements available like auto volume leveling and other DSP effects.  Make sure they are all disabled.

Go to View >> Enhancements
Make sure anything that affects audio is disabled.  Especially the auto volume leveling

Also go to Tools >> Options... >> Plug-ins tab
Disable any Audio DSP plug-ins that may be there
