Windows 7- Compatibility (Hardware / Software) Thread

Oct 23, 2009 at 6:04 PM Post #16 of 36
I have had no issues at all, Lenovo have had Windows 7 drivers out for quite a while now.
As for applications, I have found that if some game or program won't run, it will work when run in XP compatibility mode.
My LD DAC_I works with WASAPI and everything, even sweet sound effects in games, it's like going back to the Prodigy 7.1 HiFi again, just with vastly superior sound quality.

But be aware that installing non-digitally signed drivers can be quite a hassle, especially on the x64 version as far as I understand.

The drivers for my E-Mu 1212m work..mostly (see below). Patchmix software works.

However, I have noticed a latency issue with audio playback when I'm browsing/posting.

Received the new laptop and have to say that Windows 7 is the real deal....Smooth and quick navigating....and I'm one that likes Vista....

So far, installed about 8 programs and so far so good with no issues...However, I have confirmed that my Verizon Wireless usb modem does not work.....Driver issues...Went to Verizon and they advised they are working on it. None of their hi-speed wireless usb modems at the moment, are compatible with 7.....

At home, my wireless network works flawlessly, so that's a good thing for the moment.....It's getting on the road that I need the Verizon....

Later on today will install all my programs and a couple of DACs, HDTV and USB to SPDIF converters...Hopefully no hiccups....

I'm loving this OS....Next on the list- Installing it and dual-booting from my Vista x64 desktop....Good times....

Win7 is an easy upgrade. List these irregularities. It's so much more stable and faster than XP ever was.

Be careful when talking about stability of "new" software.

And since you mentioned speed, most benchmarks available out there show the opposite.

"Windows 7 underperformed XP in every category"

But it's not a problem if you have a halfway decent machine.

XP->7: yes, if HW is supported
Vista->7: not worth it imho

First of all, what benchmarks? You provide no links.

Second of all, synthetic benchmarks don't mean as much to me as real-world responsiveness, where 7 kills XP. A few milliseconds faster response to the Start Button is worth a 1% hit in Folding@Home since CPU performance is just about never the bottleneck in modern systems, waiting for user response is.

I also experienced non-compatibility with the Daemon Tools.

I got a warning about non-compatibility when trying to install Daemon Tools, but I just installed it anyway, and it has been working just fine.

M Audio Transit USB has issues in Windows 7 x64. You can get it installed using their latest Vista x64 drivers, but on restarting the computer the Transit fails to work every time.

No news of any imminent Windows 7 x64 drivers either.

Looking for a new DAC...

Arainach, you're right. Even the responsiveness of the start-menu is worth the upgrade from XP, if your hardware is supported. Hardcore gamers might lose one or the other frame per second, but every time a new driver is released the gap gets narrower
