hello.
I have been using winamp for a month or so now and am really liking it.
Yesterday, it said it needed to be updated to avoid some security issue, since then I am hearing a lot of crackles and pops...similar to listening to an older record.
any suggestions on how to fix this?
I hear it on my headphones and speakers so I do not think that is the issue.

thanks

Perform a fresh install maybe? Aka - first uninstall, then install.
Or install the previous version which have kept you happy for a month'ish.

Are you running the output through ASIO?

Do you have a cmedia chip in your sound card?

Try Kernel Streaming and see if it goes away.

ASIO! I forgot to get that...it was recommended when I was looking to replace media player.

side note, I had previously ripped all of my cd's through the vista media player, then realized the quality was not as good as the original, I had a post which helped me get the right program to rip lossless to FLAC...I am surprised how much difference there is between the Vista rip and FLAC!
