With sensitive headphones like UM1s, I find the hiss from my ipod unbarable. I wall looking at line outs, but since I don't always use my c&c box, I was thinking about this line-out which has a headphone jack:

Will this remove the hiss and improve soundquality like a line out with a mini plug would? Thanks

That's the dock I use. And then a radio shack 1/8" to 1/8" to my Xin Supermini. It works fine giving me a line out which is what counts. No sense in paying 1/2 the price of the ipod video for a cable/dock to the amp.

Do you mean that if i don't use an amp, I can not change the volume at which it is playing? I was hoping to go from ipod->line-out -> um1s when i can't use my amp to remove the hiss.

Thanks for the quick replies

If you plug your headphones straight into that you will not be able to adjust the volume. And (I think) the volume will be quite loud.

It will actually be very very quiet, if not silent without an amp.

Hi. Actually, the headphone-out amp section is not shut off. The line out signal is just re-routed. In other words, you can plug your headphones to the Headphone-out jack and use the line out connector, together, at the same time. Volume only affects the Headphone-out. Because of this, battery life varies. Thanks.

your best option would be a 80 or 100 Ohm adapter on the headphone out of the ipod. this will lower the volume of the headphone out, so when you turn it back up to normal listening levels, the hiss will be greatly attenuated. the only commercial one i know of is the 80ohm etymoitic p to s adapter.
