I have a deal for a 10+ year old RS-1, I'm only worried that the sound will be worse or that it wont last a long time since it is so old and their build quality already seems not too solid. So is it safe to get an older Grado?

They're either already broken or not. If not, they won't break if you treat them well, and they'll last you a lifetime. My 9+ y.o. SR80s are like new in every way.

Also, if it's a really good deal, and something happens, it's likely that you'll come out ahead including (within reason) repair costs.
