So I really want these headphones, and they basically top my budget. (Why I can't buy an amp)
 
Would I be better off getting a pair of Sony MDR-MA900 (which only have 12ohm) or should I get the Q701s and save for an amp?
 
Primary use is gaming, then music (genres like dubstep, jazz, rap, hip hop)

The Q701s are ok without an amp, but greatly benefit with one. It doesn't have to be fancy though. I used a JDS Labs Cmoy with my Q701s for a while -- it's a great choice for a cheap amp. I forgot the exact price, but it's in the $40-50 range. Haven't heard the Sony so no comment there..
