It has an immense amount of gain, I can't turn it up past 7:00 or so without risking ear damage on my HD650.

Otherwise, I just sold my t-amp... guess I'll have to find another one

according to Mikhail, the Slam should drive the K1000 with authority. it certainly does so with the HP-2, which combine medium impedance with very low efficiency for an effect that requires a great deal of current. this coming saturday i'll get a chance to run the K3000 (headphile hybrids with K1000 drivers in CD3000 body) out of the Slam, which should give an approximation of the K1000. i'll be sure to report how it is in the meet impression thread after saturday.

I will be pining for these impressions, as it will answer both my questions about the SLAM driving the K1000 and whether I should have Larry do a little frankensurgery on them

Don't know if the standard PPX-3 would be the best choice. Having recently contacted Mikhail about an amp for the AKG, I was first asked what my budget was. After I told him my budget was $1000, he replied that he could build a PPX-3 SLAM optimized for the K-1000 for about $950.

if you read a little more closely, you'll find that we are talking about EricP's existing PPX3 Slam.

Yep, the PPX3 SLAM drives the K1000 quite nicely. Volume at about the 10:00 position produces quite a bit of noise. Nice noise, actually

Just wanted to give notice that, according to my understanding, an optimized version the PPX3 SLAM is available for use with the K-1000's. Perhaps Eric's SLAM can be sent back to Mikhail to be "optimized" also?
