Well, it certainly won't increase the battery life of your source.

Sorry for my reply because we are not the MOT now, but I think it is ok to reply some questions in here, and we will try to become a MOT of HEAD-FI.

First, I am james from FiiO!

Second, we had tested our products, and I must say, all headphone amp will increase the battery life of DAP, the reason is that DAP will not need to dirive the headphone directly, usually the loader will be not not more than 300 ohm. and the loader of a amp usually will be over 10k, and E5 is 12k ohm.

SO, when using a headphone directly, the power used to dirve a headphone will be

P1= U*U/R=U * U / 32

and the power used to dirve E5 will be

P2= U*U/R=U * U / 12000,

SO, you can see that P2 will be smaller than P1.

as a example, we had tested with a MP3 player which used a AA battery, using a 16 ohm headphone, the playtime is about 10 hours, when using E3 to drive the same headphone, the playtime is about 14 hours!

Also , part of the reason why the power output of MP3 is small now , is the designer wants to have a longer playtime.
