Right beside you, honey.
I currently own the Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 and I read up that it has the Yamaha C1YMU823 which is apparently "inferior" to the Wolfson DACs found in the Samsung Galaxy 3.6/4.0/4.2.

So I've been wondering..

Will the average music listener be able to tell the quality difference when compared side by side?

If so, how much of a difference does it make and what are the differences?

I will be listening on FLAC and ~320 MP3 files with the Audio Technica ATH-M50S and the Etymotic HF5 through PowerAMP.

Thanks!

Forget about comparing DAC chips to predict audio quality. The implementation of the DAC chip with the electronics that support it, as well as the headphone amp, is WAY more important than the chip itself.

So, sorry. You need to actually listen to the devices and see how they sound compared to each other. Or read comparisons by other people.

Might also be worth looking into the Galaxy Tab Pro tablet series since that's their flagship right now (I have no idea how good the audio is).

Or you could just get an iBasso DX50 :gs1000smile:
