Will recabling headphones really make them sound better?

Posted this in the headphone section, figured it would make to post it here too:

I'm thinking about recabling my Koss PRO 4AAT's in the hopes that it will help to bring out the higher frequencies. Will recabling actually help to bring the highs out or will it not really make much difference? Thanks.

Depends if you believe the cables tale, I did it because a 2m cable didn't cut it

Only you can decide, after you do it. In my case I recabled a Senn HD600 because I needed a shorter cable terminated in a 1/8" plug. It so happens the Headphile Senn V2 in Black Silver made my Senn HD600 sound much better by opening the top and tightening the bottom.

The Koss PRO 4AAT's are a headphone that doesn't produce highs very well (see my review). A better cable won't make a difference. At that pricepoint you are better off spending the money on a slightly better phone. The cabling they use on the Koss is not that bad in the first place.

I'd rather get real and try to find what kind of caps there are on the signal path and replace 'em all.

A capacitor in the signal path will have far bigger sonic impact than the quality of the cables. Not that many sources can get away without having any.
