Hi there,
 
I have an iPod Touch 4G that I connect to an E5 with an LOD cable, and Goldring NS 1000 headphones (passive with noise cancellation off). 
 
Should a Fiio E11 make much difference to sound quality? The NS1000 seem to need a lot of power, as they sound rather flat and boring unamped. 
 
Or should my next upgrade be headphones? I quite like my NS1000 amped through LOD though. They also fit my rather large head which is good; I tried on a few pairs of headphones a while ago and they were too small.

Not sure about your particular pair of headphones, but going from Fiio E5 to Fiio E11 was quite a jump in musical performance to me. E11 opened up the soundstage, cleaned up higher frequencies, and emphasized lower frequencies for my M50.
