Will be purchasing AudioQuest's Nighthawk headphones - would the optional Dragonfly DAC be a worthwhile investment for my circumstance?

I've been using Sennheiser's HD380-Pro series closed back headphones for years. They're comfortable for hours of listening with no fatigue, and the 32db of passive cancellation are a nice plus.

I'm ready to step it up.

My digital content is FLAC and V0 from my server. I also play vinyl on a Denon DP-60L rosewood table with an Ortofon 2M Red (though I'll likely step up to the Blue next.) I'm using a Yamaha CR-840 integrated amp for my server's media and an entry-level external DAC.

For portable headphone listening I use my phone to stream FLAC from my server.

Content: Early choral music, Kosmiche Musik, modern classical, a lot of minimal and ambient music, musique concrete and early electronic experimental music, as well as shoegaze.

I'm going to be purchasing AudioQuest's Nightawk headphones, and I see they're available both with and without the Dragonfly DAC.

I imagine my Yamaha setup is sufficient without the Dragonfly, but I'm curious whether or not it would make a measurable difference when listening from my phone.

I welcome your input.

Wait for the soon-to-be-released Dragonfly Red - apparently (from a reviewer who didn't rate the Nighthawk that much last year) he was staggered at how impressive they were when connected up with the Red. I have a Nighthawk, and I am patiently waiting for the red.
Be well.
