My 0404 is on its way, and I was thinking about an amp. I was wondering if a CMoy with OPA2227PA is enough to power my A900s and have good sound.

I am inclined to say 'no'... as even a AV-710 owner like me noticed HUGE difference in going from CMOY to PIMETA!

i have a900's and a cmoy and the cmoy makes a huge improvement. if you dont want to go for the pimeta right now i feel you'll be happy with a good cmoy

A lot have of people have a tendency to go ampless with the A900s but I will always disagree with them. A cmoy is a great amp to start off with for the A900s. I have an A900 and a cmoy amp w/opa 2227 op-amp and the bass is much deeper and the details come out a smige. I'd recommend it.

AV-710-->CMOY-->A900

BTW, I threw a PPA (w/AD8610s or 20s, don't exactly remember) into the mix and there was literally no difference. If anything, I liked my cmoy over the PPA but that's probably due to the PPAs op-amps more than the PPA design itself.

Well even though I don't have the 0404 myself, I'd be pretty confident in saying that it would make a difference. I'm sure someone with that setup will contribute their opinion.

I wouldn't go so far to say that it is significantly better simply because A900s demand a high quality amplifier to really expose their true potential. However, the cost/benefit ratio is well worth an investment in a cmoy. The bass is a little deeper resulting in that low, slam effect which I really like probably because of my musical tastes. I'm, by no means well versed with audiophile terms but from what I can figure, the details come out and the highs are a bit tamed. I kinda found that a issue when I ran my A900s ampless because the highs would drive me crazy but the OPA2227s really tame them down and make the overall sound a smidge, just a smige, darker. Don't forget that you can use your own op-amps that suit your music tastes.

I hope that helps.
