WiiM Streamers Mini and Pro

Dec 1, 2022 at 5:27 PM Post #196 of 974
Got my hands on the Wiim Mini and it works as well as I expected from the glowing reviews.
It has now replaced my RPi4 / volumio set up and what really sold it is the app - frankly the volumio app is garbage in comparison.

One question: does the Mini do digital coax out? I suspect the answer is no but wanted to check here in case I've missed something.
My current understanding is that it does digital optical out and analog out ("aux out") using its internal DAC, and that's it. Correct?

Also hoping it to replace my RPi and get some Amazon streaming functionality. I believe only the Pro has coax (and ethernet) so that's what I've been waiting for.

I have a linear power supply for the RPi and curious whether it will provide any improvements if I use it on the WiiM over the typical "phone charger" thingies.

Are we still expecting 10 DEC release for the pro? I need another streamer for a secondary speaker setup ASAP.

For those of you using Wiim, is wifi connection stable?

One thing I love about the Node is solid connection/software stability.

Judging from available info, looks like the wiim pro will be a versatile streamer at an exceptional price.

Amazon is taking pre orders now for the Wiim Pro. Not sure how many units will be available at first, so going suggest if you’re Planning on buying a unit to order ASAP.

Amazon has sold out of the initial pre-orders. Hopefully they have more units in stock in the next week or so.

Whose is the affiliate code?
The link code and tag in the url normally indicates an Amazon affiliate company or person who will get commission on a purchase - it’s normally used by websites who offer advice and guidance, or run blogs, for example where they earn revenue on purchases you make following links from that site. Personally I don’t mind that if I support that website - it’s just strange to see in a forum where people could follow that link and the affiliate gets commission without there having been a connection between them and the buyer.

I'm curious, should we expect any difference in the signal quality between the optical out vs. the digital RCA?
Quite possibly, since jitter can afflict optically-interconnected devices, while not a factor for coax connections. Also, if you listen to hi-rez content, optical is generally limited to 96kHz, while coax will carry 192kHz signals.

Another question that somebody might be able to answer, is there any quality difference in the signal when using 5 GHz wifi vs Ethernet? The reason I ask is that all my router Ethernet connections are in use, so it would be much easier to use wifi, which is only about 3 feet away from where I'll have the WiiM Pro.
Depends on how much intermittent interference your 5gHz environment has. I think Ethernet will be more reliably trouble-free, all other things being equal. But WiFi may work perfectly well for you,

Of course, differences between optical/coax and WiFi/Ethernet may be subtle and whether they're audible will come down to the quality of your transducers and ears.

Good question, it’s showing that Linkplay Technology is the seller but can’t find if the link above posted is from a blogger/revenue getter who’s posting the link and getting a slice of the action?
Linkplay is Wiim (I checked their website before ordering, to make sure it wasn't some unknown third party seller). No idea who's affiliate code that is, but guess they're getting a cut of my purchase since I bought it using that link. I feel rather indifferent about, but let me know if I should be upset lol.

Well I copied the link from Amazon wiim page and posted it here. So not sure what this affiliated code is. I'm not making anything off it. I might have copied link well still logged on to Amazon? Will recopy it see if that changes anything. Nope still says the same thing. Any suggestion on why this be? Can anyone else go to Amazon not thru my link and see if get same outcome as I did?

I think you're good and thanks for posting the link.
Linkplay Technology appears to be Wiim's distributor or arm in the US, they're also the same ones selling all the Refrub. Wiim Mini's on eBay. I was more asking others to check who may know more about amazon and the shenanigan sellers that frequent it and if this was one of them but it's not. Now a days; I'm noticing so much gray market audiophile items (like Denefrips, Gustard...etc) being listed on Amazon by none authorized US sellers, it can sometimes be hard to tell what is legit and what is not.

Good to see Wiim being so proactive and doing their part and hopefully some of us will soon get our hands on a Wiim Pro.
