Avoid sony.

Avoid the el-cheapo players from noname companies. (though a few of these offer very nice features, such as the Packard Bell "Audio Dream" which is actually manufactured by NEC and as such is very high-tech, eg. it's size, OLED screen...)

A safe bet is an Iriver flash player or a creative muvo TX FM or NX.

On second thought, avoid the Packard Bell as well as it is slightly difficult to use its menus.

I'd get an iriver. I'm not sure if there is still trouble with 192 vbr though...

Well, how much memory are you looking for? You can get the Creative Muvo TX with 256 MB for under a hundred bucks.
