Why won't foobar's kernel streaming work with Digital Out on my AV-710?

I just installed a Chaintech AV-710 and have been playing around with it after reading the *excellent* setup guide posted here at Head-Fi. I've gone back and forth between the v1.43d and v4.32b drivers and am currently using v4.32b. Here's my problem - even though I've followed the instructions in the setup guide posted here to the letter, I *cannot* get kernel streaming output in foobar2000 to work with the Toslink digital output on the AV-710.

In foobar I have Playback output set to 16bit fixed-point and kernel streaming using the Envy24 Family Audio (WDM) device. I get this error when I attempt to play a file:

INFO (CORE) : startup time: 1578 ms
INFO (CORE) : opening file for playback :
INFO (CORE) : location: "file://D:\Audio Files\FLAC CD Archives\David Bowie - Best Of David Bowie 1969-1974\08 - David Bowie - Best Of David Bowie 1969-1974 - Suffragette City.flac" (0)
ERROR (foo_out_ks) : KS output error: error opening device.

Kernel streaming works fine if I configure the AV-710 for upsampling and use the analog output. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I want bit-perfect output from the digital out on this card. Here's my system info:

WinXP Pro SP2
foobar2000 v0.8.3
AV-710 drivers v4.32b

The AV-710 is set to 2 channel output, S/PDIF Output set to AC3 or PCM with Auto Selection (48KHz Only). Sample Rate State is 48000Hz.

I'd appreciate some help. Thanks.
