Why is it to get better sound than the DT770, A900, or K271 do I have to spend a ton of money -- and for some cans that have plenty of short-commings? It seems like a great opportunity for a headphone manufacturer to supply a willing market that isn't being filled yet.

And if any manufacturer is listening, I prefer forward, exciting headphones with slam, plenty of bass, but without harshness.

Good question.

I want to know as well. I have my own weak theories, but I think it has something to do with the fact that open headphones have been traditionally known to sound better than closed headphones at the same pricepoint. You do have the A1000, W10VTG, W10LTD, W11JPN, W100, W11R, W1000, W5000, A900LTD, and CD3000. (They're all Audio-Technica's except for the last!

You are asking the same question I've been asking myself for the past three years.

And I've tried most of the sub-500€ closed circumaural headphones worth trying.
