One of the reasons why folk dance is important is because it influenced compositions of some great works in classical music. For example you'll hear the folk dance influence in the third movement of Beethoven's 6th symphony. Folk dance is also a great way to celebrate at festivals with sausages and beer or wine if you're in France.

One of the things that I don't like about history books is that there is too much emphasis on wars, bloodshed and death. But the reality is that many people had good times too and there were many happy moments even during the Dark Ages.
