Why i don't want a mp3 player with more than 512 mb

I am so sick and tired of having with me all my favourit songs. Everyday the same situation, shuffle through my 6 gb mp3 player. I can't even enjoy my music because i hear them several times a week.

Also i have difficulties enjoying music on the run, i need to sit and be relaxed to enjoy it.

So now i'm getting one with maximum 512 mb to shuffle through new music that i load once every week to discover new music.

Am i the only one in this situtation!!?!

Probably not, but your scenario is a good reason why I make 4-8 hour playlists on my portable.

you can put new music on bigger mp3 players as well.

you can also select an album to listen to, instead of just shuffling.

Yeah, i think you need playlists. That's all. Not a less capacity DAP ...

The thing is, i'm very picky when it comes to music, and i have a high bar for what i consider good music. So when i listen to new music all the time, i get so fedup of it that i quickly return listening to songs i enjoy.

That is why i don't want any music in my DAP that i know of and like. I will simply end up playing them and after a while get sick and tired of them.

I've already used my DAP as a player for new music only and i've discovered many new tunes thanks to my strategy!

I feel your pain. I've ran through many 20gb+ size DAP, but decided, after I rummage through new releases/newly introduced to music, I only listen to what I really love, and everything else just doesn't get enough replay value. Part of the problem is that I listen to music way more in my car and at home, and in both cases I can listen to the CDs or mp3s on CDs. So in turn I sold most of my portable rig to get better car audio lol.

However I'm gonna snag me that 512mb samsung usb DAP for running and biking, and just throw singles on it so it'll be like I'm listening to Sirius. Ironically I'll be downsizing from a 2gb nano which I thought was small enough(and they're taking too long to rockbox it lol).

i would avoid the shuffle due to the piss poor sound quality, if you want a good 512mb player, just go for a Cowon U2.

I have an 80 GB iPod and have the opposite problem. I wish it was bigger. My music collection is big enough that whittling it down to 80 GB leaves only albums that I really like. Every time I get a new CD, I have to decide what CD that I like has to be deleted. I have a play list of my absolute favorite 50 or so CDs and a play list of recent CDs. I still shuffle by album over the entire collection frequently. I love when I surprised by an album I've not heard for a while.

I have so much music right now that I haven't yet listened to that finding new music to listen to is the least of my problems. However, if I do find myself needing to break out of a rut, I turn on Rockbox's "move to random folder" feature which will play a random album.

I was actually considering the shuffle. But now when u say so.....
I'm actually also using Shure E5, so i will notice the bad hiss in the background. I was thinking of either the Creative Zen Stone or the Iriver S10.

Not sure which one sounds best.

There is actually a good deal on the Cowon U2 atm.

even though the sound quality of the shuffle is less than stellar, i would consider it because of the ease with which you could accomplish your goal. you can also look for the first generation shuffle which has excellent sound quality. auto loading a player with a smart playlist that is automatically updated with songs you haven't heard seems like it would be perfect for you.

if you don't go with the shuffle and itunes, i would look into the auto playlist option in windows media player. you can use wmp with a ums player (like the zen stone or the iaudio u2) and there are similar auto playlist options.

I just lost my 1 gen shuffle. I have no idea where it is. I'm not so up for buying the same player again =)

But yes, it was actually perfect. That is why i considered 2 gen shuffle, but then again, i've read so much about it sounding so terrible.
