So I got my hd280's back today and am comparing them to the sr60s side by side for the fist time.

I like the hd280's better: better bass extension, more detail, better soundstage....

The 60's seem cloudy, weak bass...BUT damn, I find myself rockin out to these things, bouncing my head up and down, singing...I don't know why!

Well, I know you're going to say, "it's because it is more up front and in your face." But honestly when comparing side by side THEY DON'T seem more up front and in your face, they seem the same.

I'm mystified.

How about "It's because they're just a more "fun" pair of headphones!"

it means that the details and bass extension and sparkling highs dont matter as much as how the sr-60 produces MUSIC to the ears. aka. pleasing to the ears.

it is probably not as revealing of the nuances and such on songs so that you can actually enjoy the music, rather than listen analytically.

i think that's the most important part of a headphone (for me anyways), they should make you enjoy music, not listen for the small bleep you think is heard at 2:33 of the song...

Dammit, there's one song I listen to which has a little beep in it and it sounds so much like my mum calling me from downstairs! I turn round every time

The age old battle of preferences... Fun/groovy -VS accurate/flat

For me, 9/10 times I'll take a fun and groovy headphone over an accurate one. The K701 (with a warm source and colored amplification) is about as accurate a can as I can enjoy.

Different strokes thats all. Continue to listen to whatever puts a smile on your face.

whats a warm source? I have a mac, i'm guessing that's not warm. Also, what kind of amp can i get that is relatively cheap that makes the music sound "sweet?" Tube amp?

I'm a poor college student on a TIGHT budget, is it even possible for me to get my hands on these item?

If you like the HD280 get the EH350--they sound almost the same to my ears, the EH a bit more bass leaning.

some tube amps can be had for cheap nowadays- do a forum search on "Darkvoice" and "Dared MP5". haven't heard the Darkvoices though. the Dared MP5 is very warm, maybe too warm, but i think it's great for the price

oh, and how can it be too warm?

To me something warm sounding is often something that is maybe a little rolled of in the higher details, a little darker sounding and not so bright, some say that the extremely detailed AKG k701 and higher end sonys is cold while sennheiser is a little more warm sounding. But it is subjective, a cople of days me and my friend was listening to a pair of HECO (I think it was HECO) loudspeakers and the first thing that apeard in my mind was these are to warm sounding and then I asked my friend what he was thinking and he said: they are way to cold.
